About Us

How It All Started: One day, I was sitting on the computer chatting with my best friend about stuff that people of different races do. This in turn, inspired us to begin this blog about the good and not so good things that Asian People: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese, etc… Like. Written By Asians, About Asians.

How It is Unique: Stuff Asian People Like is entirely different from “stuff people like” or “stuff educated people like” sites because we are a public and comprehensive project trying to unite varying Asian groups over common themes and not just make fun of the privileged who are not representative of Asian majority. Asian culture is very closed off to emotions and expressing feelings or thoughts in words; therefore, this custom has translated to many disconnected and withdrawn Asians across the world.

We see a need for a means of discourse; therefore, our prose is targeted to the general Asian population and not just to the educated. Our articles are from the writer’s experience, background research, and also affirmed by results from our bimonthly reader’s surveys. Each article will connect differently to certain Asian groups: first generations, second generations, East Asians, Southeast Asians, and many more groups have unique experiences that we want to respect and bring to light. We are also different in that we have a clear mission and understand that we are walking a fine line. Each day our goal is to simply point out cultural and social truths over light-hearted humor in order to build up the Asian community and not tear down. As readers, please hold us accountable to this as we are in fact humans. Thanks again for all your support!

Reader’s Guide to Stuff Asian People Like: A reader on our blog commented, “I think the purpose of this blog is to take things that Asians do implicitly, and then make them explicit. When we actually explain them, it just sounds silly.” This sums up our project along with the deeper goals below. Therefore, as our daily readers have recommended to their friends, “One should start Stuff Asian People Like by reading Post #26 to help you understand the overall intentions and serve as a lens for connecting to the rest of the posts.” Jumping into any one post as the topics are random day-to-day will most definitely lead people to preconceived assumptions and misconceptions which is entirely not what we intended to be the purpose of this project.

A Public Project: After realizing how many people we were reaching and the positive response, we have quickly evolved from a small hobby among friends to a project with meaning, purpose, and a network of support from leading universities across the nation. Stuff Asian People Like is now a public, literary project for Asians to contribute, learn, and think about the perks of their culture. The project aims to bring out Asian culture at its purest form where it’s often buried deep below Western culture. We want to connect first, second, and beyond immigrant generations to where they came from while spicing it up with humor and satire. The project also helps Asians explore their culture and helps other cultures better understand Asians.

Join Us: If you’re witty, articulate, and passionate about writing and exploring Asian culture, we are always looking for more writers. Your work will have the wide-spread influence of 20,000-plus readers. Volunteer to write about your own experiences and join the Stuff Asian People Like Community. Contact asianslike[at]gmail.com for more info. A new article is posted each day. Become part of the largest growing Asian online community. If you connect with our goals, please help with an online donation as we are fundraising to move to a new server that can support the increasing visitors. Note: All ads go towards server and web maintenance fees. Thank you and we wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of friends and daily readers like you.

Help Spread the Word: Remember to follow up on our articles, share comments, and help spread the word to all the Asian people you know! It’s for a worthwhile cause. Lastly, don’t forget to show your support by joining our Facebook group!

Wow, good to see the sites branching out! Stumbled across this from stuffwhitepeople and it looks pretty good. As a doctor, I’ve got Asian friends running out my ears (post #3). Can’t wait to run this site by them.

My wife sent me a link to this site and aside from the sometimes-distracting ads (those could be simplified), I am really enjoying the humor in here. Keep on rolling! (And I don’t mean, “egg rolling”.)

haha thanks for dropping a note. =) the pop-up at the beginning is temporary to let everyone know about the new Asian Central community - we hope it’s not mistaken for an ad.
