As of 24. August 2008: 4,264 paper cranes folded; 7,736 more needed
Raised: $560 for 5,600 peace cranes

Project Peace Crane is a very meaningful way to respond to the tragedies around the world because many people including the youth on the Asian Central Community have felt detached, apathetic, or simply do not know what to do or how to respond to tragedies, disasters, and injustice around the world. This is one way to respond and reflect on the victims or pray for their families as you are folding each crane.

Project Peace Crane is a fundraiser and awareness organization for the recent tragedies in Burma and China as well as future tragedies. We aim to highlight very meaningful causes and organizations that have been fighting for support and awareness as people can select causes to fold cranes and origami as gifts to the patients or victims of the China Earthquake, Burma Cyclone, Hepatitis B patients, Breast Cancer, AIDS, and many more causes. As people fold the peace cranes, they can reflect on the tragedy or say a prayer for each victim and their families. After two weeks, people from the Fuji Islands to China have collectively folded 2,421 peace cranes and raised $560 in pledges for 5,600 cranes that went directly to American Red Cross and World Vision relief efforts in Burma and China.

Instructions: Fold the peace cranes, take a picture with a note along with the cranes saying “Project Peace Crane” so we know that the cranes are for this project, and email it to asianori@gmail.com (include number of peace cranes folded). Other information for the website is optional: your name, location, thoughts/feelings about the tragedy, etc. If you’ve made over 1000 peace cranes would like to mail them to Asian Central, here is the address: Asian Central P.O. Box 11452, Stanford, CA 94309 (include all the info necessary above in the package). Please email asianori@gmail.com with any further questions.

We recommend that you read the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. These folded cranes will be a vigil for the people in China and Burma. For each crane you fold, you can spend that moment to reflect on the deaths or pray for the families. Continue to invite your friends, and take part in our Paper Crane Vigil. If you have further questions, feel free to ask us: admin@asian-central.com.
