Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes

I recently played Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, the new game in the Capcom’s Versus series on the Wii.
I must admit, that I like the ability to  play as Mega Man, Roll, or Karas at will, or Ken the Eagle(Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) and Viewtiful Joe.

The characters for  Tatsunoko vs. Capcom are as follows:

Tatsunoko Characters:

Ken the Eagle     (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman)
Casshern     (Neo-Human Casshern)
Tekkaman     (Tekkaman: The Space Knight)
Yatterman     (Yatterman)
Polymar       (Hurricane Polymar)
Gold Lightan     (Golden Warrior Gold Lightan)
Doronjo         (Yatterman)
Karas             (Karas)
Hakushon Daimaō (Hakushon Daimaō)
Jun the Swan     (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman)
Ippatsuman     (Gyakuten! Ippatsuman)

Capcom Characters:

Ryu             (Street Fighter)
Chun-Li     (Street Fighter II)
Batsu Ichimonji (Rival Schools: United By Fate)
Alex             (Street Fighter III)
Morrigan     (Darkstalkers)
Sōki             (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams)
Rock Volnutt     (Mega Man Legends)
PTX-40A     (Lost Planet: Extreme Condition)
Roll             (Mega Man)
Saki Omokane     (Quiz Nanairo Dreams)
Viewtiful Joe     (Viewtiful Joe)
Yami             (Ōkami)

In this installment of the Vs. series, you play with 2 characters, each you can switch out by using a certain command, to “tag” them into the fight.
There are also many other commands that are available that are familiar to the Vs. Series, and there are new commands to learn as well.

The graphics are very nicely done. the characters and background are both in 3D, but still keeps the traditional 2D side-scrolling movement that everyone is familiar with.

The controls however, differ slighty in a way from past games in that they are very simplified. There is a Weak,Medium, and Strong attack, and an assist, which are the only 4 buttons you have, making the game playable with not only the classic controlle, but the Wii remote as well.

There are 2 robot characters, PTX-40A, and Gold Lightan, which cannot have an assist character. This doesn’t matter much, seeing as they are huge robots that can reach across the screen to hit their opponents.

For those that were expecting super powerful hyper combos may be disappointed-hyper combos have been powered down considerably, but that still makes the game fun and somewhat easier to play for casual gamers.

I very much enjoyed playing this game, and being a fan of Capcom games as well, this game overall did not disappoint, except for the fact that it may not ever come to the USA because of licensing issues.

Overall rating: 9 out of 10.
