Album Review: 2pm Vol.1 - “10점 만점에 10점”

2pm is the group that JYP has invested the majority of his hopes into. In contrast to 2am, this group will mainly focus on image, and choreography while promoting upbeat dance music. This group debuted 2 months after their other “Hotblood” roommates and fans have been anticipating their debut. The members are JaeBum, TaekYeon, WooYoung, NichKhun, JunSu, JunHo, and ChangSung.

Track 1 - 10 만점에 10

I’m still not sure about how I really feel about this song. In one way, it’s unoriginal and lacks substance, but it’s really catchy and exciting. The chorus where they yell “10 만점에 10” sounds very cheerleaderish to me. They could have debuted with a better song, but it’s bound to be a hit in Korea anyway. The chorus will probably end up being as annoying catchy and remembered as “tell me tell me…”

I realize that this group is more focused on dancing and creating dance music etc… but the MV is seriously lacking some shots of them mostly dancing. I guess I’ll have to wait until they perform the song to see how well they actually perform. JYP seems to be plugging himself AND the Wonder Girls in almost every JYP project. Hahaha. Yay for YooBin who pops up at the end.

Track 2 - Only You

This song appears to be less annoying than “10 out of 10 Points” and it can easily be categorized as another R&B/hip-hop song. It’ll probably grow on me the more I listen to it, but it’s not a bad track. Just the repetitive backtrack doesn’t give much support to the song.

Track 3 – Angel (Recommended)

For some reason, that little “bohh” beat is always going to remind of me of WG’s “Tell me.” “Angel” is an easier song to listen to, it sounds like a mesh of the first two tracks. This is probably one of the better songs on the album/single whatever.

Track 4 - 10 만점에 10 (Old School Ver.)

I wouldn’t necessarily call it an “old school” version, unless they are referring to old school kpop. With an “old school” style I would expect more bass and simple instrumentals, sounds more techno influenced to me. The original version is better.

Haha I was thinking of writing a review for this.

I’ve been waiting for them to debut FOREVER, so I obviously like the single due to anticipation. But I think if I didn’t know anything about these guys from their documentaries, that I’d think “10 out of 10″ would be a little annoying because of the “SHIPJEOM!” part’s repetitiveness. The song grew on me, though. The MV is funny. I love their dancing, esp during the perfs.

I like Angel and Only You. Angel more than Only You. I’m curious to hear their future stuff. I like them more than 2am.
