July 11th in Asian History-

Korea:
2001 : Visit of Kim Yong-nam, number 2 of North Korea to Hanoi. He is the highest leader to go to Vietnam since Kim Il-sung in 1964

Japan:
1628 : Birth of Tokugawa Mitsukuni, famous Japanese warlord.
1938: Japan and the Soviet Union fought in Manchuria, until 8/10.

1984 : Birth of Hitomi Hyuga, Japanese actress, Hyuga is best known for her role as Yuko Sakaki in Battle Royale.

1987 : Birth of Shigeaki Kato, Japanese idol, who is a member of the J-pop group NEWS, from Johnny’s Entertainment, Inc.

China/HK:
1405 : Chinese fleet commander Zheng He sails for his first campaign.

1969 : Birth of David Tao, Taiwanese singer-songwriter, who has now released nine albums, and has won several awards. Airport 10.30 was also nominated for the MTV Awards for Best Chinese Video in 1998.

1975 : Chinese archealogists announce they have found thousands of terracotta warriors in the tomb of first Chinese emperor Qin Shihuangdi.

Other Asian Countries:
1921: Mongolia gains independence from China.
On this day, after Soviet troops were deployed in Outer Mongolia, the People’s Government of Mongolia was formed with the Jebtsundamba Khutughtu as limited monarch. On July 12th of that year, the Mongols requested that the Bolsheviks keep their troops in Mongolia, to which the Bolsheviks agreed and complied on August 10, 1921. On September 14th of that year, the new People’s Government of Mongolia declared independence, and refused to recognize the suzerainty of China. Currently this event is celebrated as Mongolian National Day. In the capital of Ulan Bator, activities include the “Three Manly Sports:” wrestling, archery, and horse racing.

1983 : Birth of Kelly Poon, Singaporian singer, who has released 3 albums.

1995: Pres. Clinton announced plans to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

    DAVID TAOO!!! YAY!!! I remember watching “Battle Royale,” the gore effects were kind of silly but the storyline was interesting.
