A.S.I.I.D. Credits to MTV.

Aired on June 19, America’s Best Dance Crew Season 2’s battle has begun. I hope you are an ABDC fan, because I will be covering this show week by week.

With 10 fresh new crews, the American audience is expecting some exciting new tricks. These crews better step up their game to reach the JabbaWockeeZ and Kaba Modern level that was shown in season one of ABDC, because those crews made this show a hit! This season, the crews representing the West coast are Fanny Pak, from California; Supreme Soul, also from California; and Super Cr3w, repping Las Vegas, NV.

Representing the Midwest are: A.S.I.I.D. from Detroit and Xtreme Dance Force from Illinois.

Representing the East, we have the Boogie Bots from our nation’s capital of Washington DC, Phresh Select from Philly, and SassX7 from New Jersey.

Repping the South, we have SoReal Cru from Texas and Distorted X also from Texas.

The crews that made it into the top five this week were: SoReal Cru, Supreme Soul, Boogie Bots, Xtreme Dance Force, and ASIID.

That leaves Super Cr3w, Phresh Select, SassX7, Fanny Pak, and Distorted X on the bottom five, with Fanny Pak and Distorted X as the bottom two crews.

First up to perform was SoReal Cru from the Southside, the Asian group of the season. Dancing to Omarion’s “Entourage”, they were actually pretty good. I have to say that the dancers themselves look pretty funny, and their purple and teal jackets did not make them look any cooler, but that doesn’t matter since their dancing was alright. Judge JC Chasez complimented on the butterfly flip that landed in a “manly” split done by one of the crew members. Shane Sparks, in my opinion the toughest judge, was very satisfied by this group and said they are definitely going to be in the top two. Lil Mama really enjoyed the group and can see their motivation in their dancing. She also loves how fun the group is.

Supreme Soul was second in the battle, representing the Bay Area. This group is already best known as the cocky and aggressive group who claim to be better than the JabbaWockeeZ. Performing to “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” by Busta Rhymes, they showed the world how much they wanted to win, but did not succeed as planned. They were in sync, and their moves played with the songs lyrics when they put their hands near their eyes, and did lots of popping, but Shane stated that they needed to be cleaner. He complimented on how well their ripple move went, though. Lil Mama stated that they killed it last week, but did not kill it this week. She was disappointed that their swag was gone and told them that they need to “stay cocky” and keep working for perfection. JC thought that they were too caught up in their tricks and stated that they did not use the whole stage; they’ve got to get out to the audience. So in general, they’ve got to “go hard”. Backstage in the crew garage, the crew noted that they’d do some crazya– stuff next week. We shall see.

The third crew to show off their stuff was Xtreme Dance Force from a suburb of Chicago. After seeing their intro video and hearing that they like to get pampered, and after seeing their outfits, they gave me the pretty boy impression, but not so pretty. The boys were daring and chose to dance to “Shawty Get Loose” by their very own judge. Their pants looked a little too tight, and I remember hearing them comment about that in a special ABDC episode, which prevented them from doing their best (was it the pants?). Lil Mama commented a backflip done by one of the men, but Shane right off the bat yelled out “WACK!” He was harsh on this group, saying that a 10-year-old could have choreographed what they did. He said that they need to get to work, and reiterated that they were wack. JC stated the obvious–they were tight and stiff. The moves were there, but they were tight.

A.S.I.I.D., the group with a hearing impaired member, from Detroit was fourth to dance. I must say, I love this group. They have so much passion, and Joseph, the hearing-impaired member, seems like one of the sweetest people ever. His dancing is tight, too. Shane Sparks was very impressed with the group, and loved their “walking the dog” trick very much. Lil Mama commented that in order to win this competition, you have to entertain, and that is what they did. “Don’t ever be afraid to put in a little sugar, spice, and everything nice.” JC thinks that the group has a magic to them that makes the audience go wild. He also enjoyed the dog trick.

The Boogie Bots were up next, repping our nation’s capital. They told us what sparked the idea of their group name: transformers. Motivated by a sob story (which all crews seem to have) of a member’s father being in a coma, they danced to a song titled “Bounce with the Ounce”. I personally thought the routine was a little boring, but that’s just me. JC said the performance was very clean, but they should’ve added a little more bounce, with the ounce. Lil Mama noted that a flip was messy at the landing. Shane Sparks instructed that they should spend more time on being sharp, clean, and creative.

Then it was time for the bottom five crews to show their moves.

The B-Boying group, Super Cr3w, from Las Vegas was up first to try and redeem themselves. They chose to dance to “Get Up” by James Brown, while dressed in some interesting ninja outfits. Their b-boying was very cool, but the performance was kind of lame in my opinion. Apparently the judges didn’t think so. Lil Mama said that they turked it up and went hard. JC said the performance was wild from beginning to end. Shane said that he was very excited throughout the whole performance and even added, although he didn’t know if it could be aired, “they s***ted on everybody”.

Phresh Select from Philly was up next. They spend their time working to improve the lives of children raised in the city of brotherly love. They chose an oldschool track “Motown Philly” by Boyz 2 Men. They did a neat hat trick, which I enjoyed. Shane also enjoyed the hat trick and commented that nobody missed a beat. JC loved the old school feel of it and enjoyed the performance. Lil Mama said that the bottom five should definitely be the top five.

SassX7 (a group that I am NOT a fan of) from New Jersey was next. These girls are graduates from Rutgers University and were part of the cheerleading and dance squad, therefore showing very cheerleader-like moves. That bothered me. They give me a “Fysh n Chicks wannabe” impression. I’m getting too opinionized. *Ahem* Performing to “Damaged” by Danity Kane, JC said they were very wise in their decision because its a very feminine song. Lil Mama made a joke about how they looked like cheerleaders for the Lakers because of their purple and gold outfits. She liked the moves, but thought their cheerleader-ness (for the lack of a better word) will hold them back in the competition. Shane said they were good at what they do, but encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone.

It was then time for the bottom two crew faceoff. Fanny Pak was up first. Fanny Pak reps California and admires the 80s. They wear fanny packs which were very popular during that era. They admire the 80s because people took chances in everything, and they take chances in their dancing. When I saw them at the live auditions, I wanted them to go home. I’m not a fan of the strange stuff, haha. They performed to “Speakerphone” by Kylie Minogue and added to the 80s feel by adding a boombox on the stage. Their performance was very creative and had a fun ending.

Distorted X now had a chance to hopefully save themselves from elimination. Repping Houston, they wanted to shake every southern stereotype. Dancing to “Oops (Oh My!)” by Tweet, the ladies were not afraid to use their looks. Their routine was very sexy and their pink plaid skirts added to the image. They even teased the audience by lifting their shirts a little bit.

What did the judges have to say about the two groups? Lil Mama said both groups brought fire with them onstage. She said that Fanny Pak was “slept on”, and appreciates them for going hard. Shane Sparks complimented Distorted X for taking time to put a great performance together. The simple things that they did were sexy, and he enjoyed it when the ladies showed their back. He thought their outfits were enticing and their dance was hot and sexy. JC said that its a shame that both groups were in the bottom two because they performed very well. He also thinks they both have huge boundaries to break through (Fanny Pak with their strange look and Distorted X and their beauty).

Although both groups went hard, one had to go home. Distorted X was sent home, but they left the stage with pride after saying that they deserved to be there and complimenting Fanny Pak’s crew.
